July 2008
Report of the International Workshop on Bringing Balance to the IMF Reform Debate organized by CIGI in Waterloo, Canada July 18-19, 2008
This conference report was prepared by Stefano Pagliari (Doctoral Candidate, University of Waterloo), Jason Thistlethwaite (Doctoral Candidate, University of Waterloo), and Domenico Lombardi (Oxford Institute for Economic Policy).
This conference was designed to bring together the policymakers and academics interested in the future of the International Monetary Fund and global monetary relations more generally. In 2008, CIGI, New Rules for Global Finance, and Oxford University’s Global Economic Governance Programme, sponsored a series of regional conferences that have enabled developing countries to articulate their needs and priorities for future services from the IMF. To date, the debate about International Monetary Fund (IMF) Reform has been shaped largely by conversations within and among OECD countries and orthodox or mainstream economists. This project proposes to remedy this imbalance within the current debate.
