Goal of Consultation:

The goal of this consultation is: Identify the full spectrum of proposals and ideas for addressing sovereign debt crises; and to organize these ideas in a way that moves the debate forward. In order to do this, we aim to galvanize broad and heterogenous input from all regions. This will be an open consultation and we will encourage participation from academics, civil society, experts, lawyers, international organizations, practioners, think-tanks and others. As the consultation progresses, we will publish periodic updates.

This consultation was initiated by the Center for International Governance Innovation (CIGI)New Rules for Global Finance is coordinating feedback on the draft paper and the global consultation that will follow. In its efforts to promote greater integrity and responsibility in global finance, New Rules seeks to stimulate, broaden and deepen the dialogue on sovereign debt. We are not promoting any particular position or approach to resolving the challenges associated sovereign debt. All proposals, recommendations and ideas will be accepted and published on the Sovereign Debt Consultation webpage. CIGI has provided the initial overview of sovereign debt issues, including the topics for debate (see top-right box). We are using CIGI’s work as the launching point for this consultation. We realize that this list of topics is not complete and we encourage participants to suggest new topics for discussion.
