Despite the recurring challenges with debt crises, there is still no reliable and predictable process for dealing with sovereign debt crises.

As part of a “Global Consultation on Sovereign Debt Restructuring,” a webinar series is being organized to deepen dialogue, exchange proposals and answer technical questions. It will also serve as a platform to discuss alternative issues, proposals and ideas that are ignored or overlooked. One problem is that this debate is dominated by the persepectives from the United States and United Kingdom. As a result, the unique concerns, challenges and appropriate solutions for different regions are often dismissed.

This webinar on sovereign debt restructuring will focus on the perspectives from Latin America. Organizations and individuals from all regions are welcome to participate.

Many countries in Latin America have had experience with sovereign debt restructuring – from Argentina to Peru. The circumstances and outcomes are different for each country, but some similarities may exist as well. Join this webinar to learn and share various approaches – and new ideas – for restructuring sovereign debt. This discussion will be led by civil society leaders and experts from Latin America.
