This year’s World Bank Youth Summit was titled “Youth Entrepreneurship: Cultivating an Innovative Spirit to Alleviate Global Youth Unemployment” and stems from the World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim’s belief that young people play a critical role in the global development agenda. In 2012, he challenged the World Bank Group staff to think of ways to foster the energy and creativity of young professionals and channel that dynamism into helping end extreme poverty and boost shared prosperity. In that spirit, the Youth Summit 2013 brought together young people from around the world in a global exchange of knowledge, to generate ideas and promote innovation, and to inspire youths to become active agents of change. The New Rules Fellows were grateful to have the opportunity to participate at this annual event of the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
The youth summit was a great event and I fully support the youth inclusion and engagement in enterprenuership to end poverty, and the youth to become a voice for integrity and the fight against corruption especally in developing economies.

The summit was an outstanding opportunity to connect with other young professionals and to discuss the impact of World Bank activities to reduce youth unemployment around the world. For next year I would wish to see a more diverse audience including participants from low-income countries. Otherwise, it was a great event.

The summit was a great way to acknowledge the efforts young entrepreneurs made in development and to inspire more youth to make a difference. It would be helpful for the Bank to produce more opportunities for interactions and communications between young people and the Bank staff to help move things forward in a practical way.
